Kids Love to Make Cookies Using the Press Dough Cookie Maker!

The press dough cookie maker reminds me of a play dough kit I had as a kid. However, it is much more fun cause you can actually bake and eat the creations you make. Kids love to bake! Get them involved in the kitchen with this fun set of tools for creating unique cookies. Simply make regular sugar cookie dough, or buy some ready made cookie dough, and you are ready to begin. This set comes with lots of pieces and tools, such as hand presses, decorating pens, molds, cutting wheels, frosting tips and more. All Press Dough Cookie Maker sets come with a Tips and Tricks Quick Start Guide to get your kids into creating the right way, right away!

I've included the best recipe I know for making sugar cookies for use with the Press Dough, and also some tips on how to make your baking foray with your kids a huge success!

As much fun as your baking parties may be, they can also create a big mess and stains on kids clothes, so I have also included my best recipe for a homemade stain remover. It works great for me, when I come up against food coloring stains.

Start Your Cookie Making Out Right

Use the Right Dough with your Press Dough Cookie Maker

The very first thing you need to do is to choose the right dough. The best choice is homemade dough from the recipe given below.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Leave the butter out for at least an hour before starting, so it will be soft.

Ingredients:

2 1/4 cups of all purpose flour

2/3 cup of granulated sugar

a pinch of salt

1/2 pound real butter (unsalted is better)

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

With a mixer, beat sugar and butter together on medium till it is smooth.

Crack the egg into a small bowl and beat with a fork till blended

Add vanilla, salt, egg and baking powder and beat on medium,

Slowly add the flour until well mixed

Bake for 10 minutes and check to see if they are done. Cookies will not usually brown.

If you cannot make your own cookie dough, then there are alternatives that can be used.

The other choices are:

1. Store Bought Dry Cookie Mix - Use the option for Cut Cookies

Betty Crocker Sugar Cookies

Pillsbury Sugar Cookies

2. Cookie dough in a tube - Must be firm to the touch

Any tube sugar cookie will work, you can also use shortbread cookies or peanut butter cookies

Notice about Pillsbury Sugar Cookie Dough

If you want to use Pillsbury pre-made Sugar Cookie Dough, you will have to add 2 tablespoons each of flour and cornstarch for each tube. If you do not add these items, your dough will not work well with Press Dough Cookie Making Sets.

Three Important Tips!!!

To Make Sure Your Cookies Come Out Wonderfully!

1. Every time you press a cookie, you need to spray the mold with cooking spray and dip it in flour. Trust me, it will make getting the dough out of the mold a breeze. It's worth the extra time it takes.

2. Chill your cookies for 20 minutes in the freezer before you bake them. It will make your cookie designs stay more crisp and look better.

3. Always bake your cookies for 10 minutes and if they are not done, check on them every 2 minutes from then till they are done. Be careful, they can burn quickly, if you are not paying close attention.

Homemade Stain Remover For Clothes

This Could Help Save Your Kid's Clothes

Food coloring and other items used when kids cook with these kits are bad to stain fabric. I had quite a time finding a stain remover that would work in getting out these kinds of stains. I tried a bunch of different recipes that I got from different people, but none really worked well until I got one from my Mom's roommate at the senior living facility. She heard us talking about a stain remover I had tried made of water, baking soda and dish detergent. She told me that she had always used a stain remover recipe that she had gotten out of a magazine back in the 50's. It was fairly simple:

1 cup baking soda

1 cup peroxide

2 cups of hot water

Just put in a spray bottle and shake up. I went home and tried it and it worked like a charm. Not only on food dye, but also on grass stains and other stubborn stains. So if you have trouble with food dye stains after a Press Dough party, give this a try.
